Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2011: Women’s Collection

The Seoul Fashion Week took off with a great success.  The event was categorized into three exhibits which includes: Korean designers, Generation X for budding Korean designers and Fashion Take-Off which was the exhibit for old and new designers.  There were 43 designers that showed their collection for Seoul Fashion Week 2011.

The event showcased the brands from Seoul which gave an opportunity to all Korean designers.   Among the brands which are sough after by celebrities like Lady Gaga, Super Junior and Black Eyed Peas include: Andy &  Debb and Doii Paris.  These brands are popular in Milan, New York and London.

ANDY & DEBB

The designers behind this brand is Andy Seokwan Kim and wife Debbie Wonjeong Yoon.  They met while studying fashion in New York.  The label was introduced in 1999 and they launched their first collection at the New York Fashion Week.  Their designs include: feminine and romantic minimalist dresses and simple silhouettes.  Their dresses are worn by celebrities and actresses in Korea.

KWAK HYUN JOO COLLECTION

The person behind this brand is designer Kwak Hyun Joo.  His collection had been shown in Paris, Japan and Hong Kong.  His collection is called “Mad Kiss” where the theme centers on Snow White.  The collection includes: biker jackets, corset skirts, light khakis and more.  Hyungsik from ZE:A modeled for his S/S 2011 collection.

DOII PARIS

Lee Doii is the designer behind this brand.  The designer graduated from Central St. Martins College and worked under John Galliano and Kenzo.  The collection includes: fairy tale inspired outfits with lace, ruffles and silks.  The designs are handmade and only a limited number of designs exist.

The Seoul fashion scene is one-of-a-kind and their strength lies on the diversity of the designers.  Both young and old designers share a passion for fashion.  They design for what consumers want and they have an understanding that fashion is business.
