“Everyone has special nights out at least once in their lifetime. And that’s why there is always something for everyone in each of my collections because I like to touch as many people as I can with what I do.” These are the words of Dorian Ho, one of the leading figures in the Hong Kong fashion scene.
Ho owns his own label selling women’s elegant eveningwear, and is sold in Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong, Barney’s in New York, and many other leading retail destinations. Ho typically designs through having light fabrics and crystals to give it an elegant feel. His 2006 Shiing Crystal Design Collection used over 10,000 pieces of crystal to create the entire collection.
Born in Hong Kong, Dorian studied Marketing at Boston University. After graduating, Ho returned to his homeland to create his own label for women’s businesswear called Doriano, and soon followed with his own eponymous label of evening and bridal gown collections. What is remarkable about Ho is that he was already heir to his family firm that manufactures for Calvin Kelin and Donna Karan, but instead decided to create his own fortune through labels Doriano and Dorian Ho.
In 2001, Dorian launched the ‘Dorian Ho Collection’ in New York and in Sydney, and is now sold in Hong Kong, the US, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Mainland China and the Middle East. Three years later he launched his own bridal collection ‘Dorian Ho Bridal’ and in 2011 launched a childrenswear collection named ‘Babydoll by Dorian Ho’. Additionally, Dorian also designs uniforms for banks, airlines, hotels and cosmetic companies.
Among his awards are “The Outstanding Designers” award at the 2006 Moet and Chandon Tribute to Asian Fashion Designers, and a “Recognition Award” by the Royal Princess of Thailand at the 2007 Bangkok International Fashion Week.
