Having worked with Adidas, Converse, Lacoste, and hip hop star Kanye West, Kevin Poon is a prominent figure in the world of streetwear fashion. Poon is the co-founder of CLOT- Hong Kong’s leading streetwear brand-as well as JUICE- an international streetwear retailer.
Born in Hong Kong, Poon studied at Hong Kong International School, before moving to North America where he studied Finance at Pepperdine University in California. It was through moving back and forth from Hong Kong to the U.S that Poon started selling streetwear to friends and colleagues. This soon evolved into him setting up his own store JUICE, alongside childhood friend Edison Chen. “We did something for ourselves because we didn’t want to report to anybody, or ‘work for the man’,” said Poon in an interview with IamOther. “In order to avoid that, we put together what we loved doing, and put that into a job.”
Today JUICE has now set up stores across Hong Komg, Shanghai, Tapei, and Kuala Lumpur. Poon and Chen’s clothing label CLOT is sold across all JUICE stores, and has been in the American marketplace since 2006. CLOTS message is to reflect youth culture, and allow people to develop their individuality and add character to their society. As an Asian designer inspired by American streetwear, Poon’s idea is to bridge both Eastern and Western cultures.
Poon regularly works with big names known outside of the fashion world too: CLOT organised the Hong Kong leg of Kanye West’s Touch The Sky tour, and collaborated with Disney on a pop up store called Man In The Forest where Disney characters and Eastern principles were joined together. It’s these inspiring ideas make Poon’s ideas and enterprise only go from strength to strength.
