Japanese Fashion: The Coming of Age Day 2011

The Japanese holiday called the Seijin no Hi or also known as the “Coming of Age Day” is held every second Monday of January.  This day celebrates the transition of young Japanese individuals to adulthood.  The festivity includes ceremony like going to the shrine, celebrating with friends and family and more.

The best thing about this celebration is the way Japanese girls wear bright and colorful kimonos during the ceremony to visit the shrines.  It is one of the days were you can see many Japanese fashionistas flock together to celebrate.  This is the event were you will see hundreds of people wearing the traditional kimono.

This year’s celebration was held last January 10,2011.  Japanese people were garbed in luxurious traditional clothing in the areas of Harajuku and Shibuya.  This area is where they spent most of their time.  Kimono is no longer the normal outfit for young Japanese people nowadays.  And seeing them were such lavish kimonos makes it more delightful.  The girls wore fur trimmed kimonos for added glamour and style while others stick to the more traditional style.

The beautifully garbed girls were seen celebrating at the Meiji Jingu and they showed off their lovely kimonos.  Check out the girls as they posed and smiled.  Coming of the Day 2011 surely marked the beginning of a new quest.  For all young Japanese girls it might signify the start of a new life.

FYI:  The kimono is a form of traditional clothing worn by both Japanese men and women.  Kimono comes in varying styles and designs.
